Close, but no Seger
by Bruce

Picture if you will, submarine Seaview sleeping at her berth at the Institute. All is peaceful and quiet. Not a soul in sight as the men of the Seaview have gone home for a much needed break. The collision screen separating the nose viewing area from the control room is half closed. With the lights dimmed all looks at rest.

Suddenly the intercom jumps to life. A series of loud, descending bass piano chords echoes throughout the ship. With the second riff, sliding between the doors comes the ever so serious captain of the Seaview, Lee Crane, wearing only socks, a T-shirt, and a crisp white pair of BVD's. He grabs the mike off the clip and starts to sing:

Just put those medicines back on the shelf;
Doc just told me I'm in perfect health.
A good night's sleep is what I need that's all!
Just give me Seaview's rock and roll.

Don't try to take me to the movies;
You'll never get me to sit down in the seat;
I'll split while you're out getting something to eat.
I just want Seaview's rock and roll!

Just give me Seaview's rock and roll;
That kind of action just soothes my soul.
Today's TV ain't got the same soul;
Just give me Seaview's rock and roll.

Don't want no hero's shootin' blasters.
I'm sick of hearing "Luke just use the force."
I want Nelson yelling "Hold this course!"
So Me and Seaview will rock and roll!

Call it a relic call it what you will;
Navy can't match it and they never will.
Fire torpedoes - put a charge through the hull!
I love the Seaview's rock and roll!

Just give me Seaview's rock and roll;
That kind of action just soothes my soul.
Today's TV ain't got the same soul;
Just give me Seaview's rock and roll.

Exhilarated and perspiring, Lee drops into a chair as the music fades. The huge grin on his face abruptly turns to shock as he hears someone clearing his throat. He turns to see Admiral Nelson staring at him. Nelson smiles and shakes his head, remarking, "Don't quit your day job," as he walks away. Lee's laughter follows him through the ship.
